Exodus Cycle Two Pekudey 38:21 to 40:37
Pekudey
Pekudey
Pekudey is about knowing. All of the instructions have been given and now it is time to manifest them. It’s a sacred moment. What I’d like to focus on here though are the logistics. While we see already that there are certain materials that must go into the building of the tabernacle, here we learn the exact numbers, the defined input, the sorting and organization of this same input. These numbers are important. After all, in order to be aligned with the creation we need to know the tiniest specifics of the raw material.
Think of a simple flower. It’s beautiful to look at. But how much closer to us it becomes if we mark down each moment of growth, the number of sunny days, the inches of rain. How much closer we are to it if we see the stamens, the veins on the petals. Then, what if the flower itself creates a perfume. How much more interesting the perfume if we know the flower. How much more powerful.
Think of the tabernacle. In order to know the power that it houses we need to follow and feel the actual building of it. Piece by piece, we need to know the exact definitions of its raw materials. Then, we can understand the very essence of God, feel it and breathe it before we march forward.
There’s more than a hierarchy here. That’s because this hierarchy of thing-ness is not linear. It’s spherical, always happening, expanding outwards. And while being in the flow of this constant and miraculous movement is spiritual and certainly brings us all to places beyond the mundane, discerning each logical step of the action is the real work. The way to know God is through an intimacy with each fine vibration, each piece of woven material, each cubit, each sacred stone, each word spoken, each glance, each step. There is a deep and mysterious equation to the seeming chaos that surrounds us, that surrounds our very perception of the divine. Great care is needed in the touching of each element of this equation, in fitting it to our souls.
It’s so easy in this world to say that this person is right, this one is wrong, to try to judge our way out of a frightening blur. It’s so easy to place intentions on others that might simply be a reflection of our own fears, to mistake the essence of another human being . It’s so easy to get lost in the blur of the action itself or, on the opposite end, to get lost in one facet of the tabernacle without seeing the whole, to take the logic so far that we lose the vision that necessitates it.
In the long run, only when we can really take a loving distance and see the miraculous web of existence in all its sets and subsets, in all its merging and weavings, in all the pauses when we realize the true purpose of our singular being. In that moment we see that each tiny cell and great construction is there to hold the heart…the core… as gently as possible. This is the place of pure love, of compassion, even if you are the one who is misunderstood, who cannot be seen beyond the blur, who wonders about the harshness of others. The only place for you to stand is in the active vision of the miracle, in this defined and organized construction of heart-action.
So, may we be gentle with each other and see that we are all part and piece of this miracle called God. May we be radiant in our moment with the essence of God. May we give others the gift of our knowing perspective. May we pay attention to the details. May we honor the numbers and the raw material and be aware of the spherical hierarchy. May we help each other know the beauty of divine love...the essence of God that is pure light down to our bones. And with this essence, may we march forward.
